Web Mail Overview

Chariot provides a web-based interface to its electronic mail system. This Web Mail interface, known as SqWebMail, allows Chariot customers to read, manage and send e-mail messages via a standard web browser, using an Internet connection, from anywhere in the world.

WebMail is not only a useful tool for travellers. From time to time, you may be sent one or more large e-mail messages, that you would rather not waste time downloading. Web Mail allows you to peruse your messages online without downloading them first, and delete those you would rather not keep permanently.

SqWebMail may appear difficult to master at first glance. This guide provides an introduction to SqWebMail, and will assist you to perform the basic mail functions quickly and easily. If you are looking for answers to specific questions regarding SqWebMail, try the Web Mail Answers section.

Should you continue to experience difficulties with the SqWebMail system, or you have a question that is not answered in this overview or Web Mail Answers, please contact Chariot Technical Support at any time for assistance.

Logging In

SqWebMail requires your account username and password when logging in. These details are required to identify your mailbox, and confirm your identity. You can log into the SqWebMail interface directly from the Chariot Website.

Message Folders

Once you have successfully logged in to SqWebMail, you are presented with the Folders menu. This window displays a list of message folders, inside which your mail messages are stored.

By default, SqWebMail provides you with four message folders. These are:

  1. Inbox: Your new mail messages are delivered into this folder.

  2. Drafts: Those compositions you wish to save for later use are stored in this folder.

  3. Sent: Messages that you send to others are (optionally) recorded in this folder.

  4. Trash: Messages that are pending deletion are stored in this folder.

SqWebMail allows you to create, rename and delete your own message folders, should you wish to customise the system.

To view the contents of a message folder, click the name of the folder. For example, to view your new mail messages, click the INBOX folder.

Sending Messages

To compose a new message, select the Create Message option at the top of the SqWebMail window. The Create Message window will open.

Complete the To field (enter the recipient e-mail address here), the Subject field, and optionally the CC (Carbon Copy) and BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) fields. To send the message to multiple recipients, enter each recipient e-mail address in the To field separated by a comma. Type your message text in the Message field.

To attach a file to your e-mail composition (such as an image, or a Microsoft Word document, for example), follow these steps (repeat for each file you wish to attach):

  1. Click the n Attachments button (where n is the number of files you have currently attached).

  2. Click the Browse button to browse your computer for the file to attach.

  3. Click the Upload button to upload the selected file to the SqWebMail system. When uploaded, the attachment will be displayed in the Attachment area near the top of the SqWebMail window.

  4. Click the Preview button to return to the message composition window.

If you would like to keep a copy of this message, once sent, in your Sent Items message folder, place a tick in the Preserve a copy of the message in the sent folder tickbox.

If you would like to save this composition in your Drafts folder (to send at a later time, for example), click the Save Draft button. (Note: Once your composition has been saved in the drafts folder, you will be returned to the Folders menu. You can access your composition at a later time from the Drafts folder).

When you are ready to send your message, click the Send button. Your message will be sent, and you will be returned to the Folders menu.

Reading Messages

Your e-mail messages are stored within your message folders. To learn how to view the contents of a message folder, see Message Folders (above).

Within your selected message folder, e-mail messages are displayed (in date order - newest first - by default). Typically, only ten messages are displayed on the page at one time (although this can be changed). To view the previous or next page of messages (if any), use the << and >> buttons located at the top of the message list.

To view an individual message, click the Date, Sender or Subject text of the chosen message. The Message window, and the contents of your chosen message, will be displayed.

Replying to Messages

To reply to a message, first display that message (see Reading Messages, above). Then click the Reply button (representing a mail envelope, fifth icon from the left in the message toolbar), to open the message reply window. Compose and send your reply as per a new message (see Sending Messages, above).

Deleting Messages

E-mail messages can be deleted in one of two ways - one message at a time, or a group of messages at once.

To delete a single message:

  1. Open the message you wish to delete (see Reading Messages, above).

  2. Click the Delete button (representing a trash can, third icon from the left in the message toolbar).

  3. The message is now moved to the Trash folder, and the next message in the current folder is displyed.

  4. Select the Folders option at the top-left corner of the SqWebMail window.

  5. Open the Trash folder.

  6. Place a tick next to the message you wish to delete from the Trash.

  7. When you have selected the message to be deleted, click the Purge button at the bottom of the SqWebMail page. The selected message is now purged from the system.

To delete a group of messages:

  1. View the contents of the message folder in which you would like to delete messages (for example, to delete your new mail, open the INBOX folder).

  2. Place a tick next to each message you wish to delete.

  3. When you have selected all messages to be deleted, click the Delete button at the bottom of the SqWebMail page.

  4. The selected messages are now moved to the Trash folder. They will be displayed greyed-out in the current window (representing their just-deleted state).

  5. Select the Folders option at the top-left corner of the SqWebMail window.

  6. Open the Trash folder.

  7. Place a tick next to each message you wish to delete from the Trash.

  8. When you have selected all messages to be deleted, click the Purge button at the bottom of the SqWebMail page. All selected messages are now purged from the system.

When you have finished using SqWebMail, you should log out. You can log out at any time by selecting Log Out from the top-right corner of the SqWebMail window. This will complete your SqWebMail session.
